MIA Names New Album ‘Matangi’

MIA has revealed that her next album will be titled “Matangi” and will be released in early 2013.

“Speaking last night (November 4) at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the singer and rapper explained that the title refers to her own birth name, Mathangi, and also a Hindu wisdom goddess. “I was searching for parrots on Google and I found Matangi, who is parrot green,” she said.”

The album was originally slated for release this December, but has been pushed back so the singer can return to India, to “add more stuff to it.”

Speaking about the sound of the album, the singer described it as “Paul SImon on acid,” so that’s something to look forward to then.
