Scottish Brewery Brewmeisters has concocted the world’s strongest beer with an alcohol by volume (ABV) content of 65%.
Considering your average beer contains between 5-7% ABV, this is not a brew to take lightly. In fact Brewmeister’s notes that one should “consume this [Beverage] like a fine whiskey”.
Despite being 65%, the beer has a lot of flavour - malty, hoppy, slightly sweet and lots of yeast still in the beer. Be careful though, smelling it is probably enough to put you over the limit!
The beer itself is said to have a “viscous quality” as noted by John Mackenzie, Brewmeister’s production director. As well, renowned for it’s bite; “The phrase ‘delivers a punch’ doesn’t quite cut it — delivers a supersonic charged explosion is probably more appropriate!”
While North America has experienced an explosion in the production of craft beer over the last five years, we’re still not up to par when it comes to the taste for high percentage beverages. Creating these beers has been a trend in Scotland for the past few years as evidenced by Sink the Bismarck a 41% beer created by BrewDog, and The End of History a 55% ABV produced by BrewDog once more.
