Although Joaquin Phoenix’s latest film “The Master” has won the praise of critics around the globe, and is sure bet to be placed in the race for the honorary prize come January, it looks like Phoenix won’t be included in the accolades due to recent outbursts.

It’s no secret that the Oscars act no differently than a political campaign, and if you want a ticket to the prestigious gala, and more so a shiny trophy, you have to be willing to live up to certain expectations. Expectations that Phoenix will have no part in.

Phoenix has been absent from most of the press tour for the film, and has essentially sealed his fate in a recent conversation with Interview, regarding his absence saying,

“I’m just saying that I think its bullshit. I think it’s total, utter bullshit, and I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t believe in it. It’s a carrot, but it’s the worst tasting carrot I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I don’t want this carrot. It’s totally subjective. Pitting people against each other… It’s the stupidest thing in the whole world.”

He went on to say,

“It was one of the most uncomfortable periods of my life when ‘Walk the Line’ was going through all the awards stuff and all that. I never want to have that experience again. I don’t know how to explain it – and it’s not like I’m in this place where I think I’m just above it – but I don’t ever want to get comfortable with that part of things.”

That’s fair isn’t it?
