In a rather peculiar move, Microsoft has taken their multi-million dollar film based on the Halo video game franchise and released it on YouTube, forgoing a traditional theatrical release.
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is being released in a series of installments on YouTube over the next month, with the first installment just released this week.
The live action film was directed by Stewart Hendler and cost upwards of $10 million to produce. The film is set in the future, and “focuses on a young cadet becoming inspired by John-117, aka “Master Chief,” the super soldier at the center of the Halo video game franchise.”
The five part film series will cumulate with the release of Halo 4, the latest in the video game series, on November 4th. Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn will then be released on Blu-Ray on December 4th.
