Facebook has assured its status as a global powerhouse by passing the one billion monthly active user threshold. That’s right, about 1/7th of the world is using Facebook.
Facebook officially reached the milestone at 12:45 PM PST on September 14, although the information is just becoming public now. Along with this info, comes a few other staggering statistics.
Since the “Like” function was first launched in February 2009, that button has been clicked more than 1.13 trillion times – accounting for more than 1000 “Likes” for each individual user.
Along with that, there are also 140 billion friend connections within the site, meaning there are several links between people using the site.
Facebook users have uploaded 219 billion photos, which doesn’t include the 46 billion that have been deleted over the years.
The top five countries where people are accessing Facebook are Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States.
Facebook now joins a small club of companies who have served a billion customers, with the others being Coca Cola and McDonalds.
Regarding the achievement, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said, “Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.”
