Over two years ago, Sacha Baron Cohen was cast to star as Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biopic about Queen.

After a slew of “contractual things” halted production, the film is finally back on track, and it looks like we’ll be seeing it by 2014.

The film is still untitled, but Brian May, guitarist for Queen, had this to say on the band’s official website:

“Ah … I promised news of yesterday’s Queen band meeting. Well, it was just Roger and Jim Beach and myself … we are a small cottage industry !! Our main agenda was the Freddie film … which, I’m happy to tell you, is on course. Much of our discussion was about contractual things … it’s pretty complex …. and determining who is responsible for what. The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule – filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014”

While it may still take awhile to see this film come to fruition, Cohen will be keeping busy with his upcoming project entitled “The Lesbian.” A story that we fist posted here just last month, in which A Chinese billionaire was offering a $65 million bounty to nay man who could lure his daughter away from being a lesbian. A release for that film has yet to be announced.
